Restaurant named best in the UK confirms reopening plans

Aughton’s Moor Hall has confirmed its reopening plans for when the site opens the doors of its Michelin Star venue next month.

Chef Mark Birchall will reopen his two restaurants Moor Hall and The Barn at Moor Hall in July following their closure in March due to coronavirus.

The two Michelin-starred Moor Hall and its seven boutique bedrooms will be open from Wednesday, July 22 while its more casual dining concept The Barn will reopen on Tuesday, July 7.

In Moor Hall, there will be seating tables of up to four or six in a private dining room.

In The Barn, now open on Tuesdays, head chef Nathan Cornwell will offer a slightly reduced À La Carte menu, showcasing the best of the season. Guests can book for groups of up to six people and an expansive outdoor seating area is also available, with views onto Moor Hall and the lake.

Mark Birchall, chef patron, said: “I cannot wait to reopen the doors to Moor Hall. The last few months have been incredibly challenging, as they have been for the rest of our industry.

«Our entire business is built on the loyalty and devotion of our team, our suppliers and our guests.

«I am thrilled that we are once again able to work with our favourite small businesses, artisans and farmers that are so crucial to what we do at Moor Hall, and start welcoming back our guests once more.

«Support from guests has been overwhelming during this period who have expressed a longing to return to the restaurants. Central to our reopening strategy is plans for how we will keep these guests safe, and we have introduced a number of measures to ensure that we are able to do so.

«Undoubtedly hospitality is having to adapt but looking after people is what we do best. I have the utmost confidence that our team can learn from the challenges the virus has presented and that we will continue to offer the unrivalled level of service and quality for which we are renowned.”

Wine flights have been removed and cutlery for each course will be laid out from the start of each meal at the restaurant to reduce face-to-face interaction.

Additional safety measures which will be in place include:

– Customer temperature checks on arrival

– Enhanced procedures and training for staff regarding hygiene, including daily temperature checks

– Safe distance between tables at both restaurants

– Hand wash and sanitising stations

– Compulsory use of PPE equipment by staff

– Digital menus at The Barn via QR codes

– Glass screens in between tables at The Barn

– Regular cleaning of communal areas

– Cashless payments and the introduction of new contactless methods including Apple Pay, Google Pay and Samsung Pay

– Adjustments to front of house layout and rotas to ensure minimal contact

In June 2019, Moor Hall, based near Ormskirk beat establishments run by the likes of Gordon Ramsey, Marcus Wareing and Heston Blumenthal to be named the UK’s best restaurant.

It is situated in five acres of gardens with views to the south over a lake, said to be the remains of a medieval moat. It is housed in a grade II Listed gentry house and is described as one of the most important listed buildings in the UK.
